Our journey to look for the Cure for the Common Church continues. While the common church in America is declining or stagnant, that’s not what we at Central want to be. So, we’re looking for the prescription that leads to health.

Bible Memorization Challenge: Hebrews 8:6 (ESV)…But as it is, Christ has obtained a ministry that is as much more excellent than the old as the covenant he mediates is better, since it is enacted on better promises.
I know, I’m a day late with this newsletter…I can explain! Yesterday, I was summoned to report for jury duty. I spent all day (until after 6:00 PM) at the courthouse, going through the selection process for a civil trial. They started with 70 panel members, and had to select 14. I have to say, thankfully, I wasn’t chosen to be a member of the jury. It was not a trial I wanted any part of. However, as a result of the late day, I didn’t get my normal Monday-routine things accomplished, so I am catching up on Tuesday.
Over the past nine weeks I have been preaching on the Cure for the Common Church. It hasn’t been done for no reason—I believe that Central has some very real possibilities to break out of the common church quagmire. We have several things going for us, not the least of which is that God still seems to be working in and through us. We also have a genuine love and concern for one another. We have a warm, and inviting fellowship that is willing to accept new members. We take God’s word seriously, and we are careful of looking out for one another. I feel like we just need to start reaching out. Well, a week from Wednesday, we will have that opportunity. I have been invited to attend the afternoon session of the Martin City Middle School teacher training day. I’ll be sharing a little bit about Central, talk about how more partnership would be mutually beneficial, and share a message on grace with the teachers and staff. I’m looking for volunteers to go along with me and provide some moral support and show some “boots on the ground” support to the teachers and staff, as well. Let me know this week if you’re available.
This coming Sunday I’ll be preaching out of Hebrews 8, the message is titled On Better Promises. We have been given such a blessing, and it is time we realized that the better promises we have received are a part of the blessing. We don’t need to wish for luck…we just need to stand On Better Promises.
I hope to see you in church soon!
