Missionary News
Ramadan (June 28th-July 27th): Today is day 24 of the 30 Days of Prayer for the Muslim World during Ramadan, the Muslim holy month.  Today’s prayer focus is the Muslim boat people.

Spain: Praise God for the four women and three men baptized at the Villalba church in June.  Pray for them as they prepare for their first vacation Bible school (July 21-25).  Ask God to use it to open doors to families who do not attend church and do not know Him.

Panama: Jorge Lopez, deacon and former associate pastor of the Bethania Church, was admitted to the hospital on Saturday, July 19th, in preparation for surgery.  Doctors hope to slow the progress of his advanced Parkinson’s disease.  Pray for Jorge, his wife and 12-year-old daughter, and the medical personnel involved in his care.  Pray God will be glorified in Jorge’s life.

Brazil: The Nova América congregation gathered in their “under construction” building (no roof, no flooring) on Sunday, July 13th.  Overseas apprentice Walter Hernandez preached for the first service.  Praise God for the vision of this congregation as they demonstrate faith to their community.  Pray for continued determination and stamina as church members work to complete the building on weekends and evenings.  Pray for the missionary they sent from their church to Turkey.  Ask God to supply all her needs—physically, financially, emotionally, and spiritually.

Uruguay: Pray for Steve and Lori Torrison as they prepare to serve as Missionaries in Residence at Hillsdale College in Oklahoma during the next school year.  Pray God will help them adjust as they move and embrace campus life, give them many opportunities to mentor students, and give the students an enlarged vision of the world and their role in the Great Commission.

National Association: Pray for all who are involved in preparing for the National Association in Fort Worth, Texas, July 27th-30th.  Ask God to bless the business sessions.  Pray delegates will be engaged, seeking God’s leadership in decision-making.  Pray for unity and wisdom, and for God to receive honor and glory in all that is done.  Ask God to grant safety of travel to all who attend.  Pray our Panamanian guest, Cirilo Mendoza, will be well received and leave encouraged and strengthened in his faith.

Bible Challenges
Bible Reading Challenge: Hebrews 11:1-40

Bible Memorization Challenge: Hebrews 12:1–2 (ESV)…1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

Pastor’s Note
What a blessing…four saved and one re-dedication in one week!  That’s right, our teens have returned from camp and that is the result of one week.  Now the challenge comes to disciple these new believers…along with the five from earlier in this year.  It is a challenge, as the enemy wants nothing less than to convince these “young” converts that the commitment they have made wasn’t real, wasn’t effective, or was just the product of a desire to be accepted.  Our job is to bring the Word of God to bear in these lives so that they will more fully realize that what they have done was real, is completely effective, and does mean total acceptance by Almighty God.  It is an awesome challenge, but one that has a tremendous upside.

I’ll be at the National Association of Free Will Baptists convention in Ft. Worth, TX next week.  I’m looking forward to seeing old friends, meeting some new ones, and also seeing what is going on in our denomination.  I usually come away with some fresh ideas and encouraging information.  I’ll report back in a couple of weeks.

Here at home, we’re still working to develop our new church directory, complete with photos!  If you haven’t yet had your picture taken by Wynona Dodd, please contact her immediately following services on July 27th and August 3rd.  Also, if you haven’t filled out a directory update sheet, please see Micole Guzman or Sharon Kinder.  We want to make sure we have the most accurate contact information possible.

I hope to see you in church, soon!
