Missionary News
E-TEAM: Pray for E-TEAM students and leaders, missionary and local hosts, and local Christians and non-Christians with whom the teams interact as they conclude their time on their various fields of service.  Pray for unity, flexibility, attitudes of service and humility, good health, and true teamwork.  Pray for safety of travel, good flight connections, and rest on long flights as they return to Nashville on July 1 and 2.  Praise God for those saved through E-TEAM ministry and pray for local discipleship to ground new believers in their faith.

Mission Family: Pray for expectant mothers Miriam Bishop (Japan, due in January 2015), Brenda Carney (Japan, due in September), and Joni Hubbard (Japan, due in August).  Pray for healthy pregnancies and safe deliveries.

Japan: Praise God for the salvation of Mr. H., an elderly man who was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer.  His son has long been a faithful member of the Iriso FWB Church.  Ask God to truly demonstrate His peace and joy in Mr. H.’s life during this time and to use that to reach others with the gospel.

THP: Pray for the THP (The Hanna Project) team serving in Svishtov, Bulgaria (June 20-30).  Each morning the team provides construction help at the Svishtov FWB Church and English camps.  In the evenings, they offer a Parenting and Marriage seminar for adults and sports camp for children.  Ask God to use each team member to point others to Christ.

Panama: Steve and Judy Lytle left Panama on June 25th.  They will take a couple weeks of vacation and visit their son David and his family who serve in Peru.  Pray for this emotional time for them as they wind down their ministry in Panama.

CMP: Two CMP (College Missions Program) teams are serving this summer—one in Varna, Bulgaria, and the other in South Korea.  Students will depart for their destinations on July 7 and return July 21.  Ask God to be with all the last-minute preparations and truly use them to further His Kingdom around the world.

Pastor’s Note
The face of VBSAnother Vacation Bible School is over.  Five nights…30-45 children each night.  15-20 volunteers watching, praying, sharing, and loving those children.  Why do we do it?  We do it because behind each child’s face (even when covered with a Chief’s football) is a precious soul.  We sing the songs, share the stories, and feed the snacks so that we might have a chance to lead some of them to faith in Jesus.  It’s expensive, time consuming, and draining.  But when we see the face, and the soul behind it, it all becomes worth it.

You see, church (and VBS) isn’t really about putting bodies in seats.  It’s about seeing a person become a new creation through faith in Jesus.  Whether they attend a weekly service in this building is mostly irrelevant.  What’s important is seeing a life changed, seeing someone discover for themselves how much Jesus loves them and sacrificed for them.  That’s what it is about.  That’s why we do what we do…even VBS.  If our goal isn’t to see someone come to faith in Jesus, then we are nothing more than a social club.  Thankfully, I believe that Central is far more than a social club.  We want to share the love of Christ with everyone that God brings before us, so that we can share the message of salvation with them.  That is far more meaningful than the number of seats with bodies in them on any given Sunday!

By the way, we will have a special opportunity to share the love of Christ with families in Grandview at the end of August.  Stay tuned for more information in the weeks to come…

I hope to see you in church, soon!
