Another Election

Another Election

I recently heard a man say that he wouldn’t vote for somebody who was running for dog-catcher unless he was pro-life.  I thought to myself, “How ridiculous!”  After all, what does a dog-catcher have to do with abortions?  Plus…how can someone be so one-issue focused?  After all, politics is much more complex than a single issue.  Right?  Maybe politics isn’t as complex as we would like to make it.  Maybe we need to make sure that every elected official, even a dog-catcher, has the right idea when it comes to this issue of life.  After all, it is the first of the “unalienable” rights that the framers of our Declaration of Independence said was granted to us by the Creator.  If we, as Christians, believe in the sanctity of life, and that it has been granted to us by Almighty God, then it is of the utmost importance that our elected officials hold this view, as well.  You see, the dog-catcher that we elect this year might run for alderman next year.  After that he might become a state senator, then a United States Congressman…then a United States Senator…and someday he might sit in the Oval Office, or on the United States Supreme Court.  He might get elected to each of these offices because I didn’t care if he was pro-life or anti-life in his beliefs, and then the genocide that we call abortion will continue.

As you head to the polls this coming Tuesday, and every Christian should be voting, I hope you will consider every candidates’ position on life as THE most important thing.  In next week’s ramblings, I will show you why someone who gets the issue of life wrong, will also be the one most likely to take other things from you…
