Bible Reading Challenge:
Malachi 1:1-4:6 (The whole book)

Bible Memory Challenge: Malachi 1:11 (ESV)—For from the rising of the sun to its setting my name will be great among the nations, and in every place incense will be offered to my name, and a pure offering. For my name will be great among the nations, says the Lord of hosts.

 Pastor’s Note
241 years ago a group of men got together and voted on a historic proclamation; a Declaration of Independence. This group declared that the thirteen British colonies could no longer give their allegiance to a sovereign ruler that denied them basic rights that all men were entitled to have. Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness were only three of those rights that they felt were being denied to them. In the text of the document that they would send to the King of England, they state that they would look to Divine Providence for the outcome of the matter. They called upon the Supreme Judge of the world to determine if their actions were moral. They stated that their rights were granted to them by their Creator, and did not come from an earthly ruler. Tomorrow, we will celebrate that vote, as we look at July 4th as being the symbolic day when our nation came into being. Let me encourage you, just as those men did, to take time tomorrow to thank the Lord for the outcome of the matter. I do believe that God had His hand on the outcome, and we are a doubly blessed people as a result. So, before you wave a flag, light a firecracker or eat too much food take a few minutes to thank God for the freedom that you enjoy.

Please take note of the Special Update in the Missionary News section above. The Speer Family needs your prayers, and if possible, your financial support as they face a medical emergency with their daughter.

Beginning in September we will be having a special emphasis on fellowship. Do you know what fellowship means? Do you understand why we ought to be practicing and enjoying fellowship? We will be having a series of messages dealing with the issue of fellowship, as well as a few special challenges for the congregation and some special gatherings. Keep this series in your prayers!

Also, the Advisory Board is proposing we engage in a Trunk or Treat ministry this year on October 28th. We will be putting out more details in the weeks to come about this event.

In case you missed the note above, there will be no mid-week evening services during July. With summer vacations and the upcoming travel that I have scheduled for our annual convention it is extremely difficult to make arrangements for the evening mid-week services. I expect we will have all of our mid-week morning services as usual.

We have less than a month until Vacation Bible School begins here at Central. If you haven’t already spoken to Amy Smith or Krystal Williams about volunteering, it isn’t too late! What better way to answer the question—what are you doing to be the church?
